i'm converting libertarians into predators
|
A reader wrote me yesterday.
She's been a registered Libertarian since the founding of the party... half a century inside the framework.
Here's what she sent me:
I read that line and had to sit down.
Here's what I figured out reading it...
What I sent you Saturday wasn't an article... I called it an article... I treated it like an article... I worked on it like an article...
but it became something I didn't quite intend...
It's a tool...
And she just used it.
Here's how the tool works. You read it (or listen to it). Then you send it to the libertarian, the conservative, the quietly-furious-at-everything friend in your life. The one you've been trying to reach. The one you couldn't quite explain it to.
Watch what comes back...
The ones who write you a paragraph back, the ones who take days to respond because they have to think about it, the ones who say "i've been there too" or "i'm sitting with this" or "i'd like to become a part-time predator," those are the serious ones. Those are the ones worth your time... they will do the work.
The ones who read it and dismiss it, mock it, or refuse the premise, those are the jokers. The article filters them out for you.
If someone is too busy to read 7000 words, that's not the filter. That's just life. If they'd rather listen, the audio's on Spotify. Same essay, about 46 minutes.
I didn't know I was building a filter when I wrote it. I was just trying to write the truth as I'd lived it. Turns out the truth, told carefully, sorts the room on its own.
Use it the way she did. Send it to one person this week. See what comes back. You'll know who's serious.
A note on the article itself. Apparently 7,000 words breaks some email providers. A bunch of you never got it, I'm told. I've been at this email thing for a month. Still figuring out the infrastructure. But the readers it reached, the feedback was overwhelmingly positive.
If you're sitting where she's sitting, you're who I'm writing for.
I was supposed to ship the new home for all of this today. Didn't quite make it. I've burned myself out... I need to rest. Tomorrow... something is coming.
We're going to target the libertarians. We're going to capture their attention. We're going to force them to wrestle with the truth.
We need to extract the serious ones, so we can organize for the midterms. That's the fight that's coming. Filter out the jokers. Organize with the operators.
stay close,
~ Clay
p.s. the new home goes live tomorrow. that's where the work begins.
p.p.s. writing for you and building this project is my life now. I'm not stopping until we win. this project is 100% reader-supported. no ads, no sponsors. just me... and you... if you want to keep the lights on: [tip]
