Anya Taylor-Joy’s Red Hot Dress Is Slit All The Way Up The Back
Cleavage comes in many forms: there’s side cleavage, good ol’ traditional cleavage, even back cleavage has been making its rounds amongst celebrities lately. But what about their lesser known counterpart, butt cleavage? Yesterday, Anya Taylor-Joy made a cheeky case for the latter as she hit the streets of New York City in a bum-baring dress.
Taylor-Joy, fresh off an appearance at the Cannes Film Festival last week, took to the Big Apple in a second-skin look from Mugler’s fall 2024 collection. Her deep red mini dress featured a draped, curve-hugging bodice that formed to the actress’s figure like a glove. Up top, ruched detailing added an edge to things as did the asymmetrical neckline and cap sleeves. The actress styled her look with a matching red lip and Louboutin pumps, a ponytail updo, and a metallic Tiffany & Co. X Elsa Peretti cuff bracelet. But what really gave this look some extra pizzazz was the unexpected design of its backside.
The other side of Taylor-Joy’s dress was loosely fastened with a series of thin black straps. The leather belts increased in size as they progressed down—starting off small and wrapping almost entirely around her figure—which offered some interesting skin-baring action at the side. Yes, there was plenty of back cleavage, but there was also a hint of butt cleavage, too. As they say, business in the front, party in the back.
Taylor-Joy has been experimenting freely with her personal style lately. After leaning into theme dressing for her Furiosa press tour—wearing everything from archival Paco Rabbane chainmail to metallic Balmain armor—the actress has since switched up her style in more ways than one. She’s switched out her elaborate premiere gowns for simple white dresses, bodycon minis, and the occasional pair of leather hot pants. But, as always, the actress enjoys keeping everyone on their toes when it comes to what she puts on her body. Now, whether that’s achieved through a hand-painted gown or something like a bit of Mugler butt cleavage, is an entirely different question.
Anya Taylor-Joy is in the midst of a high-fashion, whirlwind, global press tour for her new film, The Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. On Wednesday in New York City, she took a little break from the intricate opulence of her recent looks and instead opted to keep it simple: a crisp, white silk dress from Khaite’s spring/summer 2024 collection with a mini-bustier top and thin straps.
Sometimes the most simple looks are also the most exciting.
Taylor-Joy’s hair, makeup and accessories were pared down, too. Wearing her blonde hair long and flowing, she wore a pair of strappy, white sandals, one single silver bangle, a pair of hoops, and two rings.
Thanks to her dream team — stylist Ryan Hastings, makeup artist Georgie Eisdell and hairstylst Gregory Russell, she’s appeared in a bevy of fabulous looks: a sheer, white, Jacquemus dress with a straw hat and bold lip, a show-stopping Dior gown with old Hollywood style glam or an Audrey-Hepburn-esque Giambatista Valli bodysuit with a slicked back ponytail.
In other words, it’s been a (Taylor)-joy keeping up with the star over the past few weeks.
Who Needs The Met Gala When There’s Anya Taylor-Joy’s Furiosa Press Tour?
Anya Taylor-Joy might have skipped out on this year’s Met Gala, but her latest red carpet outfit might just be more on-theme than many of last night’s attendees. Yesterday, the actress stepped out to promote her upcoming Mad Max film Furiosa in a metal mini dress that could double as a suit of armor.
The actress attended a photo call in Mexico City while wearing a sculptural Balmain look. Taylor-Joy’s dress, a custom piece by the French brand’s designer Olivier Rousteing, molded precisely to her figure and required a small team to slip into. In a behind-the-scenes video shared to her Instagram account, Taylor-Joy’s dress could be seen being snapped into place at the sides by various metal clasps. The actress’s look didn’t just make a statement by way of its metal fabric, though. It also featured bundles of silver roses that trailed from Taylor-Joy’s shoulders to both the front and back of her bodice. The actress let her Balmain confection shine mainly on its own as she finished off her look with a red lip, a wispy updo, and sheer PVC pumps.
Although Taylor-Joy’s Furiosa co-star Chris Hemsworth co-chaired last night’s Met Gala, the actress clearly had some business obligations on her schedule which explains her absence. Later in the day, Taylor-Joy even sported an edgy crop top and matching shorts to a press conference. Just last week, she attended the Furiosa Australian premiere in an archival look from Paco Rabanne.
Taylor-Joy is no stranger to theme dressing both on and off the Met Gala red carpet. And, even though she was far, far away from the Big Apple, her Furiosa look still managed to completely nail the Met Gala’s dress code: “The Garden Of Time.” The theme is in reference to the J.G Ballard short story of the same name which follows the last days of Count Axel and his wife as their villa—which is surrounded by a garden—comes under threat by an army.
Aside from the obvious floral references, of which there were many on the actual Met Gala red carpet, Taylor-Joy’s armor-like mini dress could be interpreted as nodding to Ballard’s story. With her latest outfit, we were left pondering: Who needs the Met Gala when we have Anya Taylor-Joy’s Furiosa press tour?
