Erwin Blumenfeld was one of the most prominent, yet experimental and innovative, photographers of the 20th century, shooting black and white nudes, celebrity portraiture, advertising campaigns and fashion photography using a range of techniques with light and refraction that put him at the forefront of many contemporaries. His technical expertise in the darkroom using solarisation, multiple images and combining positive and negative images with an innate sense of style and artistry. He was innovating right up until the 1960s,
making films to be used as beauty advertising, an idea that was once again ahead of its time.
