| The exhibition CHRONORAMA. Photographic Treasures of the 20th Century takes us on a journey through seven decades, where we can follow the transition from illustration to photography and witness the rapid aesthetic changes in the turbulent 20th century. New tastes in fashion, architecture or interior design, radical transformations in the world of art - all these developments we can encounter here in over 250 works.
The exhibits presented, created between the 1910s and late 1970s, originate from the remarkable Condé Nast archives, part of which the Pinault Collection acquired in 2021. Naturally, Helmut Newton and his works are also part of this remarkable collection, as he contributed extensively to Condé Nast magazines like Vogue and Vanity Fair from the 1950s onward. Most of Newton’s fashion photographs featured in this show have not been previously exhibited in Berlin. Furthermore, the exhibition brings together an impressive array of Helmut Newton’s contemporaries and predecessors, including trailblazing photographers like Diane Arbus, Cecil Beaton, David Bailey, John Deakin, Robert Frank, Evelyn Hofer, Horst P. Horst, Peter Hujar, William Klein, Lisette Model, Ugo Mulas, Irving Penn, Bert Stern and Deborah Turbeville. | |
