#30thAnniversary – Cypress Hill “Black Sunday”

#30thAnniversary – Cypress Hill “Black Sunday”

As the adage says, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it! That’s pretty much what Cypress Hill did for the follow up to their innovative first eponymous LP. Similar approach for the beats by DJ Muggs, but somehow even darker this time around, B-Real handles much of the work on the mic talking about the same ghetto stories and joy of consuming herbs while Sean Dog is the best hype man around, but also drops a couple of verses. But the similarities are not a problem, on the contrary, they are more than welcome since the first offering was such a groundbreaking piece of work. The album includes Cypress biggest hit, the legendary “Insane in the Brain”, a track still played in stadiums around the world. The band wanted “I Ain’t Goin’ Out Like That” as the first single, but the label (Ruffhouse/Colombia) decided otherwise, and they were right since it became one the most successful Hip Hop singles of all time.
