WOLFGANG SUSCHITZKY

WOLFGANG SUSCHITZKY

FEATURED ARTIST

A display of photographs by Wolfgang Suschitzky and his sister, Edith Tudor-Hart, is now open atTate Britain

Arriving in London in 1935, the celebrated Viennese photographer and documentarian, Wolfgang Suschitzky (1912–2016), is best known for his depictions of London in the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s.

A skilled photojournalist, Suschitzky’s often candid photographs are admired for their spontaneity and quiet intensity, his keen eye for composition echoing the work of Brassaï and Henri Cartier-Bresson. It is Suschitzky’s masterful manipulation of light and shadow coupled with his innate talent for storytelling which continues to give enduring popular appeal to his work.
