The Pirelli Calendar was once the world’s classiest source of sexy pinups, but in recent years has been reimagined as a fashion-tinged event. The
2018 edition may be the most glamorous yet. It includes both RuPaul and Naomi Campbell for crying out loud. Styled by
W’s Edward Enninful, who is soon to become editor in chief of British
Vogue, and shot by Tim Walker, the calendar reimagines the story of Alice in Wonderland but with an all-black cast. Ru is the queen of hearts, Lupita plays the Dormouse, model Slick Woods is the Mad Hatter while Adwoa Aboah is Tweedledom.
Literal black Barbie Duckie Thot stars as Alice. Djimon Hounsou, Whoopi Goldberg, and P. Diddy also appear. “The story of Alice has been told so many times and in so many ways, but always with a white cast,” Walker
told the New York
Times. “There has never been a black Alice, so I wanted to push how fictional fantasy figures can be represented and explore evolving ideas of beauty.” Peep some behind the scenes photos
