Putting the brakes on gender in car insurance rating

All but seven states allow car insurance companies to consider gender when determining premiums and it was widely known that women have historically paid more than men in half of U.S. states, CNBC reports.
But it appears women are shattering that sunroof ceiling.
Reporting on a new study by the insurance comparison site The Zebra, CNBC analysts say men, as of 2025, pay higher average rates for full-coverage car insurance in 38 states.
Writing that the difference “isn’t monumental,” with men paying about 1.5% more, the shift shows that women are gaining traction as the safer bet when it comes to driving.
