LA JOLLA, CA.- Joseph Bellows Gallery is presenting the solo exhibition, John Humble Los Angeles Cibachromes. The exhibition opened September 16th and continues thru October 31st 2019, with a reception scheduled October 12th, from 5-8 pm. The exhibition presents a selection of vintage Cibachrome color photographs that the artist created in 1980 as he began his highly acclaimed extended exploration and documentation of the greater Los Angeles landscape.

Using a view camera and color materials, Humble created a vast document of the city’s urban surroundings, describing a changing physical and social landscape. The artist noted, "swift changes in the built environment, particularly the often awkward and interesting juxtapositions of old and new”. Humble’s brilliant photographs follow a particular lineage of picture making, one that honors their subject through a clear and straightforward rendering. His images are contemporary depictions of the urban environment, yet his methodology reminds his audience of Eugene Atget’s views of Paris, wherein both artists assembled a vision of their city with a sense of awe and with the knowledge of its changing subject matter.

Joseph Bellows Gallery is presenting a selection of images printed by the artist in the vibrant Cibachrome process, a revered color photographic printing process that produces richly rendered hues and excellent color permanence. The exhibition features a selection of rare vintage 8 x 10 and 16 x 20 inch prints.
