WILL YOU DABBLE OR GO ALL IN WITH YOUR BLOG? THIS WILL HELP YOU DECIDE

She Makes $20,000+ a Month with One Blog After 3 Years — Here Is Her Advice to You

Anyone can do what this blogger did

Malena Permentier made more than $23,000 in one month with ads alone on one blog she started less than three years earlier.

Back in November 2020, Malena started a blog. From what I could find, her blog is about apartment decoration and organization. Nothing too complicated to start with.

Should you pick the same niche?

Malena, who made $1,200 during her first 2 weeks with an ad agency, has this to say about niche: do keyword research. Find out if people are interested.

And be interested yourself, too.

But I’m getting ahead of myself. Here are 15 tips from a $20K+ blogger to you.

Tip #1: You need a self-hosted WordPress blog

Malena recommends Bluehost.

I recommend that you stay far away from them. She says they are the cheapest. Maybe.

I’ve found cheaper — and more importantly — better.

Bluehost deleted all our domains — twice. Without asking us first. Just after listening to false accusations.

Otherwise, yes, Malena is right.

Don’t build an empire on rented ground. Make sure to have your own domain hosted with a good webhost.

(Right now this one is cheaper than Bluehost and you even get a free domain name if you sign up for a year — and it’s my affiliate link and will take you away from Medium if you click: https://clq.cx/hostinger)

Tip #2: Get a WordPress theme

This almost goes without saying.

Don’t invest in an expensive one for your first blog. If it makes you a ton of money later, sure, go ahead. But choose a nice theme either for free or little money.

Tip #3: Pick the right niche

The wrong niche will mean no money.

If you’re blogging just for the fun of it, it’s okay. But if you plan on making an income, you need to research your niche. Do keyword research.

It’s important to find out if others are interested or not.

Tip #4: Set a blogging schedule

Decide how often you want to publish a new article on your blog.

Then stick to that schedule. It can be once a week, twice a wek or even only once a month.

But it’s important to be consistent.

Tip #5: Focus on ROI

Get your priorities right and focus on a return on investment.

Sure, to start a blog doesn’t ask you for a lot of investing. Money-wise. Malena started for $80.

But you do need to invest time in your project.

Your time is worth something.

Tip #6: Focus on traffic

If you’ve read some of my other Medium articles, you’ll probably recognize this tip.

Yes, other top bloggers had the same one. Traffic means faster access to valuable ad agencies. Malena was able to sign up with Mediavine in September 2022. So almost 2 years after she created her blog.

The first two weeks she ran ads on her blog, she made $1,200.

Tip #7: Make money with affiliate links

Malena started with Amazon products.

I don’t recommend you start with those until you have traffic. Otherwise, you’ll be removed from Amazon’s program and have to apply again. There are other affiliate portals out there you can use as a new blogger.

Tip #8: Focus on tasks with a high ROI

Until your blog is really taking off, there’s no point in spending hours on your About page.

Or on creating the perfect branding colors. Spend time where it can make you an income fast. Like sharing your blog posts on Pinterest. And finding the right keywords for your blog posts.

Tip #9: Do more of what works

This is good advice for any business.

Find out what works for you and do more of it.

Tip #10: Invest what you need to invest in

It’s not that much, actually.

Malena invested $80 to start her blog. That’s a webhost (roughly $36 for a year) and a domain name if your webhost doesn’t offer it, and a theme.

I would say that you can easily start for under $50 and still start well.

Tip #11: Invest in keyword tools and blogging courses

Keyword tools…

There are ways (maybe even better?) to find out what works without using tools. But tools are fast and give you an idea. You can use Keywords Everywhere for a long time for $10.

That’s what Malena and Sophia Lee use.

I would say that if it’s good enough for bloggers making $23K or $100K per month, it’s good enough for me.

Tip #12: Spend time learning about Pinterest

Malena focuses especially on the designs of her pins.

She uses Canva. The free version. She also sells a few of her templates.

I haven’t seen them yet.

I’m still waiting for my debit cards to be unblocked after I had unauthorized access to my Payoneer account.

Tip #13: Don’t waste your time

I think Malena was talking to me right there.

“Don’t waste your time on tasks that don’t matter,” she said. Oops. Yes, I have this tendency to go down rabbit holes and dig the deeper.

Focus on tasks that are important. Like Pinterest and keywords.

Tip #14: Put your eggs in different baskets

Omelet is delicious and tasty.

But not if it’s made out of your last eggs. Your only eggs. You need to spread them out.

Don’t rely solely on one income source.

Or one blogging platform. It’s way too dangerous.

Tip #15: Build a personal brand if you want

Personally, I think Malena wanted to stop on an odd number.

This tip wasn’t ground-breaking to me. We don’t need permission to do this. But now you have it.

If you want a personal brand, you can start building it.

Are you starting a blog in 2024?

Or going back to blogging?

I don’t know if it’s just because I focus on blogging now… but I see bloggers everywhere. I watch their success stories on YouTube. And they multiply.

I’m convinced that traditional blogging will become really big in 2024.
