Fire Breaks Out at Bündner Art Museum in Switzerland

Bündner Art Museum fire
The Bündner Art Museum in Chur, Switzerland, suffered a dramatic insulation fire in its newly constructed extension, reports SwissInfo, with smoke billowing out of its façade. As the building was empty when the incident occurred, nobody was hurt. Fifty firefighters arrived on the scene, and the blaze was extinguished thirty minutes after the police department received the alarm.
According to architect Markus Dünner, neither smoke nor water entered the extension’s interior; and the extension’s artworks were spared from damage as they were still in the basement’s storage.
Designed by the Barcelona architecture firm Barozzi Vega and under construction for two years, the museum’s extension was expected to open in June, though it is now unclear whether that scheduled debut is still viable.
