What Happens to All the UnHugged Hugs
Two friends run into each other on the street but can't hug goodbye.
Their unhugged hug floats away unsatisfied.
A bunch of sad unhugged hugs.
Unhugged hugs glide around the streets weeping.
Images of people hugging laughing together doing karaoke and going out for dinner.
Unexpressed joy unhugged hugs floating away and out of the Manhattan.
Unborn joy forming a beautiful lattice sustaining us until it's safe to let it into our bodies again.
Two friends discuss their unhugged hug and get away from each other.
Emily Flake began cartooning for The New Yorker in 2008. Her most recent book is “That Was Awkward: The Art and Etiquette of the Awkward Hug.”
